Nature Walk

I have chosen to post this card to illustrate a point. A technique that works well for one card does not necessarily translate to another card. To better understand what I'm talking about, scroll down to see the card Rachael posted yesterday. It is perfect in every way. The stamp set, color choices and layout all work together. The card is whimsical, and the filmstrip format with the stamped animals complement each other well. However, this card (above) does not work because the layout is far too informal for the stamp set and the DSP I used. But, live and learn, eh? I do like that I focused on using Cherry Cobbler, a lovely rich color. The stamp set is Nature Walk and the DSP is Botanical Gazette.

Card 1 Color Challenge: Not Quite Navy, Certainly Celery, Pool Party

I made two cards with the above color combination, and I may enter one or both of them into this week's Paper Players' color challenge. For a long time I thought about the colors and the DS papers I have before jumping in and making the cards.

For this card I used the following supplies:

-DSP Botanical Gazette

-Card Stock: Not Quite Navy, Certainly Celery, Pool Party, Whisper White

-Buttons: Not Quite Navy

-Scallop Border Punch

-Ink: Not Quite Navy

-Ribbon: Certainly Celery

-Stamp Set: All Year Cheer 1

What I like best about this challenge is that it forced me out of my comfort zone and pushed me into using a new style as well as colors I probably would not have put together on my own.

An Egg is Quiet

One of the most beautifully illustrated children's books I've seen in a long time is entitled, An Egg is Quiet.  The story is simple, peaceful, and the illustrations are GORGEOUS.  So, when I saw the "Nature Walk" stamp set in the Occasions Mini, I was struck by the eggs.

I've seen many many beautiful cards created with this set, but nothing CAS (clean and simple).  While I was with her, Lissie challenged me to use the set to make a CAS card, and this is what I came up with.  I wanted to highlight those beautiful eggs, but still use some of the other images as well.

This card uses:
*Stamp Set: "Nature Walk"
*Inks: Um, I can't remember the colors I used on the eggs--sorry!--and VersaMark for the body
*Paper: Crumb Cake, watercolor paper

I know it seems astounding that it should be so, but this card took me hours to create.  I just kept sitting there, staring at those eggs, trying to figure out what in the world I was going to do with them.  Sheesh.
